Beverly O’Neill, former Mayor of Long Beach and former President of Long Beach City College, joins former Mayor Thomas Clark, current Mayor Bob Foster and Vice Mayor Robert Garcia in endorsing John McGinnis for re-election to the Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education.
McGinnis, President of the Board of Education, is also endorsed by Superintendent Chris Steinhauser and all members of the Board – Diana Craighead, Jon Meyer, Mary Stanton and Dr. Felton Williams. In addition, he is endorsed by:

McGinnis is also endorsed by former colleagues from Cerritos College where he retired from his position as Dean of the Library and Learning Resource Center in 2008, after a forty-year career in public education as an administrator and teacher:

McGinnis was first elected to the Board of Education in a special election on December 29, 2009, to finish the last six months of his predecessor’s term. He began his first full term in July 2010. On July 15, 2013, he was selected by his colleagues to serve as President of the Board of Education.
During his first term he served on the Board’s Instruction Committee, Business Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) Committee and as the District’s delegate to the California School Boards Association (CSBA). He worked on CSBA’s Delegate Assembly, Linked Learning Task Force and its Annual Education Conference Committee.
